✦ Q - What is Tui Na Medical Massage?
✦It is a branch of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is one of the physical branches of the overall greater picture of the medicine. The techniques that are employed are for medical purposes primarily. Please refer to the Tui Na Massage tab for more of a description.
✦Q - Is Tui Na Medical Massage right for me?
✦If you are looking for an hour-long massage for relaxation, this isn't the massage for you. It is a different type of massage: If you have injuries, chronic illness, or other pains and ailments, this massage is for you! It is a great addition to your overall health regime. It can also be used for overall stress reduction, as stress has many different physical components. So, if you are looking for help with a chronic condition, an injury, or need some relief from stress, Tui Na can offer some relief. It is suitable for patients of all ages, in all conditions.
✦Q - Do you deal with sports injuries and/or pulled muscles... etc.
✦Yes, Tui Na is very well suited for sports/exercise injuries and other general injuries. This is due to the fact that many of the techniques developed and used in Tui Na have been linked to, if not are the basis for: physical therapy, orthopedics, and other treatment modalities for injuries.
✦Q- What’s the difference between what you do and other styles like shiatsu or Swedish massage?
✦Swedish & Deep Tissue are mainly used for relaxation and an overall feeling of well-being. Tui Na and Shiatsu are more alike. As they are used for actual treatment of disease and ailments. Yet, Tui Na is different: the massages (or treatments) are typically shorter and more intense than other types of massage; and they are designed to be much more specific to address and treat the patients complaint/constitution/and pain tolerance level. Tui Na is used as a necessary and valuable tool within the whole medical system of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
✦Q - I've had some massages that were more intense than others; how intense are your sessions?
✦My sessions are pretty intense. I aim to move and balance the flow of energy within the body. Pain and chronic issues have to do with blockages or slowing or disruption of energy flow in the body. To deal with these blockages I employ some intense and deeply felt techniques. I also do some relaxing and warming techniques. So, in a typical session, I would switch between these two groups of techniques to help relieve the patient of their chief complaint. You might not have the most comfortable massage you’ve ever had in your life, but I believe that you will definitely walk away with relief and a greater sense of relaxation.
✦Q - What is a typical session like?
✦First visits will always be a little bit longer, because I need to take a more in depth intake to get to know the patient’s health history, history of injury or disease, and assess a general impression of the patient. After a relationship has been established: a typical session starts with a short intake to see where the patient is in the progression of their healing and what needs to be addressed in that particular treatment. During the massage, I address the complaint of the client from the information that was gathered during the intake. Over the course of the massage treatment I will utilize many different techniques that range from intense and deep to relaxing and warming. After the massage treatment, the patient will feel relief as well as an overall feeling of well-being and relaxation.
